2025 marks the first full year that Salish Sea House has been a tax-exempt organization. The original vision, created within the board of Point Roberts Circle of Care in 2020, was to build elder care homes in Point Roberts, modeled after The Green House Project methodology.
In the past year we have investigated properties to purchase or be donated and considered purchasing a home that could be renovated for elder care. Mid-year we conducted an opinion survey to understand how the community thinks and feels about the need for and feasibility of adult family homes here. Of the respondents, ages 18 to over 70, 45 percent plan to live out the rest of their lives here; 65 percent said that they, and/or family members, would consider using a senior care home if one was available.
We have been confronted by the lack of affordable long-term rentals for a workforce, and the uncertainty of medical coverage, such as Medicaid, to help cover the cost of an elder care home. Thank you for your support and enthusiasm in our community.
Our board and steering committee members work tirelessly to rise above these challenges and continue to believe that we will be successful. Our passion has never wavered, and we continue to research best options to turn our vision into reality.
