The future of the Point Roberts Primary School will be a prime topic of discussion at a special meeting to be held at the community center on Friday, January 10. The school which is considered ‘remote and necessary’ by the Washington state Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction currently only has five students enrolled, far below previous student counts. The state provides special funding for schools deemed remote and necessary.
Blaine school district superintendent Dr. Christopher Granger will be discussing an overview of enrollment trends, current and projected school operations and the impacts of low enrollment including limited peer interaction, friendship, and social development, including social norms such as sharing, cooperation, collaborative learning, and diverse social environments.
“We hope you will join us for this important conversation. Your perspective and involvement will help shape the future of education in our community,” Granger wrote in a community letter. The meeting begins at 5 p.m.
