Point Roberts is still a good place to avoid Covid-19

According to the Whatcom County Health Department, Point Roberts is still considered to be free of Covid-19. During a media briefing on August 18, Whatcom County Health Department director Erika Lautenbach was asked “if it was fair to describe the Point as Covid-free as [Point Roberts fire] chief Christopher Carleton does.”

"What we have determined is there are no positive cases we have linked to ... well, there is one case from a Point Roberts resident but we believe the exposure was after that individual entered long-term care facility," Lautenbach replied. She continued by pointing out that testing alone is just one part of the solution. Social distancing, wearing masks and isolating oneself after a possible exposure are key to preventing transmission of the disease. “We do appreciate the testing in Point Roberts but it’s more likely that the lack of disease is due to the isolation and limited exposure that they have up there,” she concluded.

The Point Roberts fire department will be offering Covid-19 testing on Sunday, August 23 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Benson Road fire hall. To register, send an email to chief@wcfd5.com with your legal name, address, date of birth and phone number.
