Time to Play is a documentary film by Kim Hunter, a Canadian educator and recipient of the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Early Childhood Education. Through the film, Hunter explores her concerns with the issues facing children and their families.
There will be a screening of the film at Trinity Church on Friday, January 24. A potluck will take place at 5 p.m. followed by the screening and discussion at 6 p.m. Bring a potluck dish to compliment the pasta being served.
Hunter, a Waldorf early childhood educator for more than 20 years said of the concept for the film, “My concern stems from observing an ever-decreasing capacity in today's children to play, too much screen time, and not enough down time […] as a culture, we are over-scheduled, running on cortisol, adrenaline, coffee and screen addiction; the slowness that is intrinsic to healthy child development is virtually non-existent.”
Hunter is excited to screen the film in Point Roberts, and said of the Point, “I'm excited to offer the film presentation in Point Roberts as I lived there in the 80s and 90s. While there I made three 30-minute documentary films about Point Robert that were aired on Delta Cable. It seems like a lifetime ago, it will be a joy to return, see old friends and present my film. I'm very much looking forward to this!”
Parents, grandparents and educators are encouraged to come for an uplifting conversation.
