Church News August 2016

Posted

All this week things have been humming at Trinity with kids and teens working together preparing this year’s Summer Music Camp offering – God with a Capital G!

It is based on the story of Elijah. Singing, dancing and some very funny lines make this a not-to-miss show. The children will be performing at 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 31, at the community center. The show will be presented as part of this weekend’s two-day expanded community market, another great event you won’t want to miss.

The Trinity Concert Series has three programs in August. On Saturday, August 6 at 7 p.m. will be the Point Roberts Winds with tenor Allan Marter and a musical surprise! Celebrating the 10th anniversary of their first public performance, the Point Roberts Winds will perform large ensemble pieces with all 10 members plus some quintet works. Allan Marter will be featured in solo works with his exquisite tenor voice.

And the musical surprise? The newly formed flute choir Flutopia will be making its debut under the direction of Robin Black. Congratulations, Robin, and thanks for having your choir’s first performance with us.

Then on Saturday, August 13 at 7 p.m., the Gospel Boys return. Featuring 18 members of the Welsh Men’s Choir, they are a big favorite here and we could not have a concert series without these guys. Providing old-time Gospel favorites and throwing in a few classic barbershop quartet numbers, they always get the crowd on their feet.

Finally, on August 19 at 7 p.m. we have “An Evening with Brahms and Friends.”

This concert had to be cancelled due to illness earlier this summer, but they have rescheduled and you will be so glad they did. The concert features Robin Black on the clarinet and Christopher Knopp on the piano. These are brilliant musicians doing both duet and solo work including the Brahms Clarinet Sonata No. 1.

“The Power of Music” continues this fall. These are lively, inspiring and fun events that include live concert footage on video followed by food, fellowship and discussion. We meet on the third Saturday of the month at 7:30 p.m. in the Trinity Church sanctuary.

Our autumn lineup looks like this: September 17: Johnny Cash Tribute Concert, featuring Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson, Chris Isaac, Kris Kristofferson, Lyle Lovett and many more. October 15: Andre Rieu, live in concert in Tuscany. November 19: Bruce Springsteen Tribute Concert (more details on that later). Join us for an evening of great music, great food and great company!

I want to close on a personal note. This is my last Trinity column. Thank you for reading and for the kind words from many of you over the years. I have enjoyed sharing with you each month. Beginning next month Gina Gaudet, Lucy Williams, and Natasha Neufeld will join forces, putting together a new monthly column of church events, news and inspiration. I leave you in good hands.
