Fire district kicks off recruitment drive in March

The local fire department has kicked off its spring/summer 2020 recruitment process for entry-level firefighters.

Candidates have until March 27 to register for a March 28 information session that is mandatory for all applicants. A resume, cover letter and drivers’ abstract must be submitted at that session for candidates to be considered for the district’s list of candidates eligible to fill vacancies in the department for the next six months. Testing, skills evaluations, interviews and a recruit academy will be held in April and May.

The fire district will pay tuition for full-time Point Roberts residents who are willing to acquire the necessary training within six months of joining the department and sign a two-year contract. Non-resident applicants need to have firefighter 1 and 2 and hazmat operations training completed.

To register for the information session, email firefighter Stefan Jones at stefan.jones@hotmail.ca. For more information on the recruitment process, visit www.wcfd5.com and look under the recruitment tab.
