Gearing up for the primary school garage sale

The Point Roberts Primary School’s gargantuan annual garage sale is this weekend and volunteers are combing through mountains of donations and discovering a lot of treasures.

“We have a lot of really awesome things this year,” said teacher Mary Edgley. “It’s just jammed with great stuff in here.”

Furniture donations were plentiful this year, Edgley said, including some dining room sets and oak kitchen chairs. “We have a lot of really beautiful lamps,” she added. There are also several items for the nursery, including a crib and high chair and lots of other baby gear.

A diverse collection of artwork and home décor is for sale. “We have all manner of artwork from painting to cast iron,” Edgley said.

For the outdoors they have a rolling composter for sale, a fire pit, kids bikes and other sporting equipment.

“We have a lot of tools and building material this year,” Edgley said, as well as many household appliances. “What can I say? We’ve got it all!”

Edgley said organizing the sale took the work of many volunteers from the parent teacher organization and the community. “We’ve had wonderful volunteers pricing and organizing this year,” she said. “Not just parents.”

The garage sale is the primary annual fundraiser for the school’s parent teacher organization, and raises funds for field trips, special programs and to add learning technology for the students like iPads and computer programs not provided for by the school district. “This year we’re taking eight weeks of swimming lessons at Winskill paid for through garage sale funds,” Edgley said.

The sale will be held Saturday and Sunday, May 23 and 24 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the primary school, 2050 Benson Road.
